Good morning, everyone. I love a good 830. Welcome. Nice to see you guys. Good job making it here today check to the great place to be on Sunday. If you haven't met before my name is miles on one of the student Minister and I thought of you realized but it's December.

Which means that it's almost Christmas. All right. I know how you feel about Christmas. Some of you might be looking forward to Christmas, you know, you get to see you family and friends you get to decorate the tree or decorate Newsroom. You get the 8 hates of food, you get to give presents and receive presents. You can have a cold beer in the pool. You can sing carols you can drive around limo Park and look at all the lots of so many great things to do at Christmas. And some of you might not be looking forward to Christmas released certain aspects of it. You're maybe you're the one that has to prepare food for 15 people. Maybe you're the one who will be cleaning the spare room for extended family to come over. Maybe you're the one who will have to enjoy pain with Plaza on a December Saturday putting up crowds over the Lost gift and then headed the hypnotic Glockenspiel intro to All I want for Christmas is you and a drives you insane. Maybe that's

Maybe you like me and the circumference of your head is just a little bit too big for those dumb paper hats to come out of the crackers and salt while everyone else is colorful and having a great time your decision and it's in front of you. Maybe you'll have to spend time with and spend money on people that you really like or people that you don't really want to spend Christmas Eve dinner people that you wish you could see it Christmas, but for whatever reason you come Christmas will be different but in some ways it's the same for at least remember we heard the same thing, which is the birth of Jesus. And so today we starting a new sermon series of Promise of Christmas. I'm going to be looking at some key moments in the book of Isaiah. The speak about Jesus and everything that he is and everything that he's done and I'll hope he's for all of us that we will each get to know Jesus that I will each grow closer to him and will age leave more like him. Let's pray that that would happen for us this morning.

Heavenly father. Thank you that we can meet together and think carefully about your word. Father please. Help us all to know Jesus better grow closer to him and live more like him. I'm in. We we got the promise of Christmas. We're going to be looking through the book of Isaiah and Isaiah. He was a prophet that lived in Jerusalem before the Babylonian captivity and he's speaking a message of judgement against Israel and their latest because of their Rebellion against God. But he's also speaking a message of Hope because he sure that God will keep all the promises that he's already made it. So as we go through this book here and Izzy rated for yourself at home try to determine which one I zayas talking about if he talkin about judgments, you know, the easy talking about the old Jerusalem, that'll be judged and defeated by Assyria and Babylon. Or is he talking about is he talking about the New Jerusalem about where all the nations will come together and they'll all be together we've gone and that will help us to understand what's going on as we go through the book now cost. The main reason we looking at Isaiah. This Christmas is because of what the heck he speaks of that actually is the coming of the Messiah the Christ the promised King The Suffering servant who is going to make all things new and bring peace and salvation and bringing the kingdom of God. It's Jesus. The one whose birth. We celebrated Christmas. He is the hope of Isaiah. inside today we get to spend some time looking at eyes 9 9 which is a section of Hope and this would be a great thing if you had your Bibles open and Isaiah 9 10 verses 1 to 5 of chapter 9 Isaiah paint this picture of Victory and peace and joy and hope that's what he's talking about when it's old comes about people will no longer have to live in Gloom and distress and darkness because a light has Dawn when it all comes back. There will be no more oppression or battle but instead Victory and Pace in the yolk the bar the run of the oppressor the old broken the Warriors clothes I destined for the fire.

And then we get to verse 6, which is a key verse for this morning and ending the 6 we get to see all of this. Hope comes from a child who will be born to us. The light the victory it's all about the son who will be born to us. It also we go through this we going to head over to my Matthew passage. I'm going to say that this person is child. This sun is Jesus. But for now, we will see this child will be cold for names wonderful counselor, Mighty God Everlasting father and Prince of pigs. How do you think that's sensible of Isaiah? You guys saying what my child will be cold before they're even born imagine right Margaret stepniewski my mum. It's 1992 and she's pregnant and people like me. What's what's the child's going to be cold? And she's like, yeah, I have several ideas. He could eat Cold Duck to miles. He's going to be cold genius. He's going to be cold. What's cooking good-looking?

Why you laughing? He said he called Maestro prime minister. He's going to be cold the world record holder of the long jump. I mean, even if it was a little bit more realistic, even if she was like he's going to be cold engineer. He's going to be called pretty good as music able to cook several dishes confidently. Where were of shoes when required in social situations?

owns several hats which can protect his balding head It seems foolish. What if I grew up to be a horse jockey you could only imagine that right?

But here Isaiah he thinks it's a good idea. And the names that he gives amazing, this must be a special babies or spend some time. Let's look at these names. Fastly the child will be cold. Wonderful counselor. Now to us or certainly to me when I think of the word wonderful, I think of just a sticker that we would give to a kid who did well on that spelling testing a great job wonderful effort. But you know, Isaiah God is the one who does wonderful things. He is the one that does extraordinary Supernatural think that's what wonderful means extraordinary Supernatural. You can't I say it yourself light up chapter 25 verse 1 and chapter 28 verse 29 And all these this tells us two things. The first is that this child is divine your he does wonderful things that only God can do. And the second thing to tilt this tells us is that this child will be a wonderful counselor a supernatural source of wisdom and useful. That's good news for those who need wisdom and guidance. It's good news for those who need wisdom and guidance. Secondly, the child will be called Mighty God. This is fascinating.

Is speaking a message from the one true God of the universe anyone and he's speaking about Hope and that this child who will be the source of pipe and hey will be called Mighty God. I mean just one chapter light-up chapter 10 verse 22 21. God calls himself bodyguard overheat the child bodyguard overheat God the Mighty God the same words. As fascinating and this child will be my teeth at all. This tells us two things again. The first thing this child is God. That's what it says. And the second thing it tells us is that this child will be divinely strong and powerful and you know, who that's good news for. That's good news for those who are weak not like muscles weak, but wake of heart and wake of mine and wake of Souls. It's good news for those who are awake.

Dudley the child will be called Everlasting father. Now. What is this one saying if you believe in or if you're at least familiar with the Trinity United one God in three persons father-son spirit. Is this saying that this child is God the Father?

No, it's not saying nothing that that's not what you saying. And the reason I reckon I can be confident about that is because it's very unlikely that Isaiah the prophet had the trinity in mind when he was riding all of us. It's far more likely that he's just continuing to do what he's been doing the whole time to talk about what the child will be cold and what he's like and somewhere I think you saying is that this child will be like a father to his people. He will Kathy's people like a father should and not just for a little while but forever. Esther of the Bible mainly in the New Testament by little bit of the Old Testament and specially the twice in Isaiah. God is referred to as father. And so when we think of the phrase Everlasting father, we think of God, of course, that's of course we think about he's the only one who is Everlasting and father and yet this child will be cold Everlasting father. And all of this tells us two things first. We again, this child is God. Only God can be called Everlasting father and yet the child will be called Everlasting father. And secondly, the child will be like a father to his people caring generous protective forever. And you know who that's good news. Those who feel alone or unappreciated? Those who feel alone or unappreciated?

Hopefully the child will be cold Prince of pace. The child will bring paste. What do you think about when you hear the word? Peace and I do you think of Adele? Or do you think of having a coffee and a book do you think it's just some peace and quiet do you think listening to one of your favorite albums? Maybe it's when parents are at work or kids at school. What space to you? Well here I think the pace of Isaiah's poking about is restoring relationship with God. That's what he's talking about. Because remember I saw it isn't just talkin about hope that's not all that he's book is about its judgment to God is judging Israel. Today Rebellion, they broke their relationship with God. But God wants to restore relationship with them. He wants to restore Pace with them because he loves them.

And the child will be the Prince of Peace. He's the one who will bring it back this pasties restoring of relationship with God. He's the one who will bring reconciliation between people and God and you know, who that's good news. people who need peace with God it's good news for people who need peace with God. And today we got that the full titles of this promised child wonderful counselor, which is good news for those who need wisdom and guidance, Mighty God, which is good news for those who are weak. Everlasting Father which is good news for those who feel alone or unappreciated and Prince of pace, which is good news for those who need peace with God. And so then who is this child? Hasn't happened. Well, if you look again at 5089 / 7, I that baby this will definitely happen. Let's see what it says. As I says he will reign on David's throne and I wish we had more time to talk about this is so fascinating. Maybe when you get home about sometime this week, you can go look at to Samuel 7 and you can see if you can figure out the connection between 2 Samuel 7 and Isaiah 9. This child is Promised elsewhere as well in the past. Insta, Asia is still confident that it's going to happen. Even with Assyria and Babylon just around the corner at again in verse 7. See what I thought. I sent this deal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

if the Lord Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth is passionately pursuing the Fulfillment of his promises with zeal. I think we can be pretty confident that it will happen. Incident who is it? Well, you guessed it. It's Jason. Who was born whose birth? We celebrated Christmas, it's Jesus. Wonderful. Counselor, Mighty God Everlasting father Prince of Peace.

Over and on Matthew for reading Matthew tells us that Jesus fulfills the passage from Isaiah 9 and he isn't just thinking about the first few verses All Eyez I-9. That's what you wrote. But that's not what he's trying to say. He's trying to reference the whole section. You know back then they want any verse numbers. You just like get out of scroll and stop reading so Matthew just wrote the first few. This is advised i92 Telly's Rita's. Hey go back and read this whole section.

Go back and read this whole section. And so what Matthew is thinking of is not just those first few verses but the whole passage as I 91227. Jesus is the Fulfillment of Isaiah 9127 the whole thing if him Jesus is wonderful counselor. Jesus is mighty God Jesus is Everlasting father. Jesus is Prince of Peace. It's all him. The promise is being fulfilled the kingdom of God has arrived. That's what Maki said in chapter 4 verse 17, right? Jesus is preaching at the kingdom of God has company. And so Jesus says repent. respond

as I wonder, how how will you respond to Jesus this morning? How we respond to Jesus this Christmas?

Just before I listed some people that each of Jesus is titled would be good for M&M. Jesus is good for those who need wisdom and guidance those who are weak those who feel alone or unappreciated those who need peace with God? Which one do you resonate with this morning?

Which one is the most apparent in your life today?

Because you know for all of them, they become the most clear at the cross.

He said Jesus was born and then he grew up and when he grew up he was crucified and when he was crucified at the cross, he displayed all of these titles the most clearly. You are wisdom and guidance. Look to the cross. Look to God's word which all points towards the cross. See how Jesus lived and live like that see the wisdom of God and all of these plans coming together at the cross.

Feeling weak of heart or mind or soul look to Jesus At The Cross at the cross. Jesus displays the ultimate power of God as he destroys death and seen at the cross. Jesus displays got absolute sober and control over all things and 3 days offer is did Jesus physically historically rose from the dead that is Ultimate pal.

feeling alone or unappreciated Look to Jesus At The Cross at the cross Jesus displays God unconditional absolute love for you.

Jesus has treated you like a father should giving up his own life that you might leave and you didn't deserve it. I didn't deserve it. We could never do anything to earn it. He did it because he loves us.

And do you need peace with God? Tell him he's going to be Trisha. Try you might feel like you need peace with God. But today you might not feel like you need peace with God or maybe last week you drove to penrith and you got all the red lights on the way. And maybe you know you were working outside or Wednesday with the messy rainstorm. That's fine. Things are okay jobs. I lost by not going out to get me a battle between me and God. Do I really need peace with God?

But for all of us every single one of us. We cannot live up to God's standards.

Just like Israel, Iowa to deserve God's judgment. And so we all need peace with God.

So for all of us me included. We need to look to the cross.

Because of the Cross Jesus's death took all of that judgment that we deserve. I put on himself for anyone who would repent and follow him. So now instead of Eternal punishment away from God we can enjoy eternal life with God.

When you leave his place today, how will you be different? What's going to change after hearing God's word this morning? Why do you need to look to the Cross today? Oh, yeah, that's what we pride. It was not right. We tried asking God to help us to know Jesus better grow closer to him and leave him and go when you leave this place.

For those of you who don't yet know Jesus as your king. Will you turn and follow him? Today, will you receive peace with God? Who Jesus become your prince of peace?

I owed you. Look to the Cross look at it very carefully. Because if what I'm saying is true the Bible says he's true. And you have a very important decision the most important decision that you'll ever make in your whole life.

You have a decision that you need to make will you follow Jesus? Yes. No, why? Why not?

In place of you who do not Jesus as king what's in a change for you today as you leave church. Will you trust God more and more after seeing how he's keeping his promises? A mole that increased trust be reflected in the way that you leave your life. Will you pray for me rely on him? When you are feeling weak or a line.

Will you seek his wisdom as you commit to spending more time in his word more time memorizing his word?

Will you commit to praying for someone that they too would be saved this Christmas? That's my one. That's how I need to change. I've been really slack recently praying for my non-Christian friends and family. That's how I'm going to be different. Will you prayerfully tell someone about Jesus your prince of peace? And how he can be there is 2.

Will you pray for me invite someone to Carol's or to chat on Christmas Eve Christmas Day?

Will you prayerfully reconcile with someone you haven't spoke to for a while this Christmas? In the same way that God has reconciled himself to you. What's going to be different?

Jesus is wonderful counselor. He is. Mighty God. He is Everlasting father and he is the Prince of Peace. I told him.

And we say it all so clearly at the cross. And select continue to look that.

Let's pray together.

Heavenly father. Thank you that we can meet together and think carefully about you and your word father. We humbly ask. Please help us to know Jesus better to grow closer to him to live more like him. Help us to look to the cross. Father please. Help me to stop neglecting prayer for my non-Christian friends and family and father help all of us to commit to whatever we need to commit to as well. Reply all these things. Did Jesus say that he might receive all of the glory. I'm in.
